LAKE VILLA MAN CLAIMS FIRST $1,000,000 PRIZE IN $200 MILLION CASH SPECTACULAR
October 16, 2011
Kenny Perry and his older brother Tom have a long-standing tradition to buy Illinois Lottery tickets at their favorite stores, then return to Tom’s house and scratch their tickets together. On September 9th, Kenny purchased the newest $10 scratch game, $200 Million Cash Spectacular at his Lottery retailer in Wauconda, then went back to Tom’s house and discovered that he won $1,000,000.
“We looked at the ticket at least six times, and then checked the numbers again,” Perry said. “We could not believe our eyes.” Kenny and Tom have another long-standing pact when it comes to playing the Lottery –if theywin big, they share their winnings with their entire family, including younger sister Cori who was so taken with her brother’s big win that she went out and bought a $200 Million Cash Spectacular ticket the next day and won $500.
The Illinois Lottery’s newly appointed Superintendent Michael Jones presented Perry, along with siblings Tom and youngest sister Theresa with an oversized Lottery check today at the James R. Thompson Center.
“Our first $1,000,000 winning ticket was purchased just days after this game was launched,” said Superintendent Jones. “Our congratulations go out to Mr. Perry and his entire family on this exciting Lottery win. And while the Perry family is our first member of our new Cash Spectacular Millionaire Club, we are pleased to announce that we’ve found our second Millionaire in southern Illinois. That leaves 23 $1,000,000 top prizes still available.”
Perry is a full-time volunteer at the St. Francis Animal Shelter in Kenosha, WI, and is a cancer survivor. He recalls many years of struggle for his single mom raising five kids alone. “This winning ticket will make life a bit easier for our family,” Perry said. “First on the list is to pay off my mom’s mortgage. Then, maybe I’ll buy a home. It’s a great time invest in real estate,” he said.
Perry purchased his winning ticket at a Citgo station located at 1200 Rand Rd. in Wauconda. He opted for a onetime prize of $600,000 (rather than $1,000,000 paid inn 20 annual installments). Anil Shah, owner of the Citgo, will receive a $6,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
