KIMBERLING CITY COUPLE USING LOTTERY PRIZE TO PAY OFF HOUSE

A Kimberling City couple is about to make their monthly mortgage payment disappear, thanks to winning a $287,000 Missouri Lottery prize. Hollie and Charles Brandes used Quick Pick to match all five numbers drawn in the Show Me Cash drawing on Dec. 22, 2011.
“I always buy Powerball and Mega Millions,” began Hollie, adding that she credits a clerk at Harter House, 11798 St. Highway 13 in Kimberling City, for prompting her to purchase a Show Me Cash ticket. “The woman (clerk) said, ‘Well, Show Me Cash is $287,000,’ and I said, ‘Oh, okay, give me one of those, too.’”
Hollie didn’t realize that she had won until one of her three daughters called to inform her that Harter House sold the winning ticket from the drawing on Dec. 22, 2011.
“She (daughter) said, ‘You did it mom! I know it’s you. Find your ticket,’” recalled Hollie. “My daughter started crying when I was reading off the numbers.”
Hollie revealed that she and her husband shared the same first thought – “goodbye mortgage!”
“We thought we’d pay on that house until we were dead, and now we won’t!” exclaimed Hollie.
In addition to paying off their home, Charles added that “maybe we can go to Hawaii next year!”
