I JUST WON A MILLION DOLLARS! SAYS ALEXANDRIA MAN
January 26, 2012
It’s a good thing David Williams of Alexandria is a regular customer at Bostons Restaurant, 7375 Boston Blvd. in Springfield. Otherwise, his actions recently might have seemed a bit odd.
“I grabbed the owner and said, ‘I just won a million dollars!’” Mr. Williams said.
He had just bought and scratched a Casino Royale ticket from the Virginia Lottery. It turned out to be the game’s first $1 million ticket. That’s why the owner was just as excited as Mr. Williams.
“He yelled to his wife to come see,” Mr. Williams told Lottery officials as he claimed his prize.
The $1 million prize is an annuity paid out over 25 years; he chose to take the cash option of $575,000 before taxes. He is not the only winner. The store receives a $10,000 bonus from the Lottery for selling the winning ticket.
Mr. Williams, who works as a senior trainer, said he will use the winnings to become debt-free and save for retirement.
