HALLOWEEN DAY PURCHASE PROVES TO BE $1,000-A-WEEK-FOR-LIFE TREAT
November 2, 2011
Carrie Wagner thought Win for Life would be a fun game to play. So about three months ago, Carrie, of Dexter, began occasionally buying a ticket once or twice a week for the game. Her Halloween afternoon purchase of a Win for LifeSM ticket at Safeway #311 in Springfield proved to be quite a treat as she matched all four of the numbers drawn that night to win the game’s $1,000-a-week-for-life top prize.
“I saw the ticket in my purse Monday night,” said Carrie “and thought I’d check the numbers before I went to bed since I knew the drawing was over.” So Carries headed to the computer to check the numbers on the Lottery’s Web site. Once there, it soon became clear, yet unbelievable, that her ticket’s four numbers matched the ones drawn.
“Carrie very urgently hollered my name,” said Carrie’s husband, Tim. “I thought something bad had happened!” Together, Carrie and Tim compared the numbers on the computer to the ones Carrie’s ticket. “That one matches, and that one, and that one, and that one,” Tim recalled saying. Realizing they had the big winner, they shared a hug and Carrie had a good cry. “This will be one Halloween I won’t forget,” said Carrie.
Carrie becomes Win for Life’s 30th winner of the $1,000 a week for life top prize. In addition to the $1,000 a-week-for-life top prize there have been 49 winners of the $50,000 prize, 100 winners of the $20,000 prize and 203 winners of the $10,000 prize. Overall, there have been more than 7.1 million winning tickets, and over $32 million in prizes since Win for Life made its debut in 2001.
