Tim Bane of Nathalie had never bought a Virginia’s New Year’s Millionaire Raffle ticket, even though he wanted to. He decided this year would be different. He didn’t know how right he was!
“I told my wife I wanted to blow $20,” he later told Virginia Lottery officials. That’s the price of a Raffle ticket.
The ticket he bought, #243508, was drawn on January 1 as one of three $1 million winners.
“I still can’t comprehend or believe it,” Mr. Bane said.
He bought the ticket at Food Lion, 1013 Virginia Avenue in Clarksville, where he works as manager. On January 4, Virginia Lottery Executive Director Paula Otto visited him at the store to present his $1 million prize. Food Lion received a $10,000 bonus for selling the top-prize-winning ticket.
Besides Mr. Bane, two others will win $1 million. The other top-prize winners bought their tickets in Great Falls and Stuart’s Draft. Six tickets won $25,000 each. Those tickets were bought in Chesapeake, Clear Brook, Hampton, Richmond, Burke and Glen Allen. An additional 300 tickets each won $500.
Mr. Bane said his winnings will help take care of his family, which includes four children.
