GEORGIA TECH STUDENT RECEIVES $25K BLANCHARD SCHOLARSHIP
December 7, 2011
A Ph.D. candidate from the Georgia Institute of Technology has been named the recipient of this year’s $25,000 Blanchard Scholarship. Luyi Gui, 26, was recognized Monday during a ceremony at the Rotary Club of Atlanta’s meeting.
“It’s an extreme honor for me to be selected for this award,” said Gui, who is earning a Ph.D. in industrial engineering with a concentration in optimization.
The Blanchard Scholarship for graduate students accompanies the annual Blanchard Award for Outstanding Stewardship and Ethics in Business.
Gui was selected to receive the scholarship in honor of Interface Inc. founder and former chairman Ray C. Anderson, who posthumously received this year’s Blanchard Award.
Gui said she admires and values Anderson’s efforts as a pioneer in green business and sustainability.
A native of Nanjing, China, Gui has studied in the U.S. for over four years. She plans to become a teacher.
Named for its first recipient, former Synovus Chairman and CEO Jim Blanchard, the Blanchard Award recognizes outstanding stewards of business and corporate responsibility for success in these areas. Thousands of business and civic leaders across Georgia are invited to nominate candidates for the statewide award, which is sponsored by the Georgia Lottery, Georgia Trend magazine and the Georgia Chamber of Commerce.
