FRIDAY THE 13TH LUCKY DAY FOR HERINGTON MAN
January 13, 2012
Friday the 13th has turned out to be a very lucky day for Jeffery Hampton. The Herington resident didn’t mind taking the day off work today to make a trip to Lottery headquarters in Topeka to claim a top prize worth $10,000! Hampton won the top prize playing a $2 Aces instant scratch ticket.
“I buy lottery tickets two or three times a week,” said Hampton. “Since I’ve had luck playing Aces before, I thought I would try my luck again and bought one ticket.”
After scratching his ticket, Hampton knew he had won, but figured he had won a Free ticket. He was quite shocked when he discovered he had won $10,000.
“I knew I had won, but I waited until the very end to scratch the prize amount that showed the amount I had won,” explained Hampton. “I assumed I had won a Free ticket. It was a big surprise when I saw I had won $10,000.”
After signing the back of his winning ticket, Hampton went to a local convenience store to have his ticket verified.
“After a store clerk verified I had won, I went on to work to ask for the day off so I could claim my prize,” said Hampton. “The clerk was so happy someone had won, she talked about it after I left. A coworker’s husband was in the store and heard I had won. He called his wife, who in turn told other coworkers. By the time I got to work, the word had spread quickly that I had won.”
Hampton, who works for Hodgdon Powder Company, was undecided how he would spend his winnings.
The winning ticket was purchased at Ampride, located at 301 W. Walnut in Herington.
