FIRST LOTTERY MILLIONAIRE OF 2012 CLAIMS $1,000,000 NEW YEARS SUPER DRAW TOP PRIZE
January 5, 2012
Yesterday was a “super day” for Ashford resident, Marilyn Rossi, who drives a concrete mixer for a local trucking company. After calling her boss to request time off from work, Rossi and her family made their way to CT Lottery headquarters in Rocky Hill where she claimed the $1,000,000 top prize in the lottery’s New Year’s day “Super Draw” drawing, which was held on Jan. 1.
Having purchased one of the game’s 275,000 tickets sold, Rossi scanned her ticket in a lottery ticket checker and discovered that the number on her Super Draw ticket - 239602 - matched those drawn by the CT Lottery in its New Year’s $1,000,000 Super Draw event. A lottery store clerk later confirmed her good fortune. “When she told me I won a $1,000,000, I couldn’t believe it,” Rossi told Lottery officials. “I told her she must have made a mistake!” Rossi said with a laugh.
Rossi, who received a check for $683,000 (prize value after taxes), was elated with her monumental win. Her plans include buying a much needed new vehicle, and to put money away for her future retirement and her daughter’s college education. “All I have to say is ‘Thank you, CT Lottery,’” Rossi said.
Rossi’s $1,000,000 top prize winning New Year’s Super Draw ticket was purchased at Big Y World Class Market located at 87 W. Stafford Road in Stafford Springs. Big Y will receive a check for $10,000 for selling the ticket.
The ten $20,000 second-prize draw ticket numbers were: 192846, 200106, 212820, 241734, 245544, 251893, 277940, 291473, 313499 and 349869.
Eight of the ten $20,000 prizes have been claimed so far by Leon Mismas, Wallingford; Paul Albert, Bristol; Sam Granata, Stratford; Donata Perugini, Watertown; Timothy O'Malley, Shelton; Helen McKoy, New York, NY; Katherine Mykalosky, Terryville and Kenneth Sapack, Woodbury.
