Washington, D.C. – The Mega Millions drawing on Friday, June 17, 2011, yielded a
winning $250,000 ticket in the District of Columbia, the city’s largest Mega Millions win
to date. The ticket, purchased at the 7-Eleven located at 1115 U Street, N.W.,
represents the first major Mega Millions win in the District. As yet, the ticket remains
unclaimed and the identity of the winner is unknown.
“We’re on the lookout for another lucky winner at the D.C. Lottery. This is historic! We
are excited beyond measure about this first major Mega Millions win in the District,”
exclaimed Buddy Roogow, executive director of the D.C. Lottery. “We’ve been waiting
for a big Mega Millions win in D.C. since bringing the game to D.C. Lottery players. I’m
looking forward to congratulating the winner.”
The D.C. Lottery introduced Mega Millions, a multi-state jackpot game, to its lineup of
games in January 2010. Drawings are held on Tuesdays and Fridays with jackpots
initiating at $12 million. To date, the highest wins in the District have been at the
$10,000 level. Mega Millions is played in 41 states, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the
District of Columbia.
The winner, who correctly matched all 5 white balls to win the $250,000 prize—and was
just one number away from winning the $53 million jackpot—is asked to call the D.C.
Lottery’s Communications Department at 202-645-7900 to schedule validation and
claiming of his or her prize. As a matter of recent policy, prizes in excess of $200,000
are to be claimed at the D.C. Lottery’s headquarters, 2101 Martin Luther King, Jr.
Avenue, S.E.
