FATHER AND SON SPLIT $50,100 LOTTERY PRIZE

A father and son from southwest Missouri are splitting a $50,100 Missouri Lottery prize. Caroll Piper, 66, of Collins, and Tod Piper, 46, of Humansville, went in on some Scratchers tickets on Jan. 7. Tod scratched a “Diamond Mine” ticket they had purchased at C-Store, 301 W. Tilden St. in Humansville, and uncovered the first top prize to be claimed in the game.
“He threw in a few dollars, and we bought a few lottery tickets,” began Tod. “It just ended up that was the one I scratched.
“I was happy when I saw the $100 winner on it. The last two numbers I scratched was the $50,000 winner. I about fell over.”
A regular player, Tod said this was the first big winner he has found. He said he tried the “Diamond Mine” ticket because it was new. This was also the first time he has played the Lottery with his dad. Each man will claim half of the $50,100 prize.
Tod, who works construction, occasionally does work with his father’s business, Five Star Paving. Neither man offered plans for the windfall.
“I haven’t seen it (prize money), so it really hasn’t sunk in, I guess,” Tod explained.
