FARMINGTON RESIDENT WINS $1 MILLION PRIZE
December 6, 2011
Howard Rapp of Farmington won $1 million by playing Mega Millions. The ticket that he purchased for the drawing on Nov. 18 matched the first five numbers drawn. Since he added the Megaplier option when he purchased the ticket, the $250,000 prize quadrupled to $1 million.
Although he just claimed the prize at the Lottery’s office in Roseville on Dec. 5, he found out that he won more than two weeks ago. After purchasing groceries, he scanned the ticket using a ticket checker. A message appeared instructing him to claim the prize at the Lottery office. “I hurried up and bought a newspaper and ran home. I opened the door, threw the groceries on the floor (I broke a couple of eggs), closed the door and checked the numbers in the newspaper,” Rapp explained. He was shocked to see that the first five matched — and that he missed winning the jackpot by just one number.
Kwik Trip, located at 217 Elm St. in Farmington, sold the winning ticket.
