COUPON OFFER HAS CAMPBELL COUNTY WOMAN WINNING BIG ON WHEEL OF FORTUNE SCRATCH-OFF
August 26, 2011
When Genevieve Patton of Bellevue received a coupon from the Kentucky Lottery, she decided to go out and redeem it right away. The offer, buy two Wheel of Fortune scratch-off tickets and get one free, ended up being a deal she's glad she didn't pass up. "If it wasn't for getting the coupon in the mail, I would have never gone and bought the tickets," Patton told lottery officials.
After buying the tickets at the One Stop Liquor in Bellevue, she took them home to scratch-off. The first ticket turned out not to be a winner, but she won $20 on the second and a surprising $40,000 on the third.
"All I saw was $40, so I thought I'd won $40. But I continued to scratch off more zeroes. I said to my daughter, 'Honey, I've just won $40,000,'" Patton said.
Patton took her ticket to Kroger where she had it checked to make sure it was indeed a winner. Next, she called her sister and asked if she could drive her to Louisville. "What do you need to go to Louisville for?," her sister asked. "Well, I've just won $40,000," she said. "Sure, for that, I'll be glad to take you," her sister Linda told her.
The 73 year old who is a student at Daymar College plans to buy a car and help out family with her winnings.
