COLORADO LOTTERY LAUNCHES PROTECT YOUR PRIZE CAMPAIGN

The Colorado Lottery has launched a consumer education campaign aimed towards helping consumers protect themselves from Lottery frauds and scams.
Every day, criminals and con artists find new ways to scam people out of their hard-earned money or good fortune. Whether playing Colorado Lottery games or simply checking the mail, it's important for consumers to be aware of these scams--and know how to protect themselves. While lottery scams can take many forms, a few simple steps and easy reminders can help ensure consumers will be protected every time they play.
"The Colorado Lottery is committed to conducting our games in a secure manner with fairness and integrity," said Abel Tapia, director of the Colorado Lottery. "We created this program to arm our players with the tools they need to protect themselves from frauds and scams-- its really as easy as signing the back of your ticket in many instances."
As part of the campaign the Lottery has created educational brochures that can be found in the play centers at most retail locations, as well as a new webpage, www.coloradolottery.com/about/protect-yourself. The Lottery also employs a Criminal Investigations Unit dedicated to ensuring that Lottery business is conducted with integrity, ethics and efficiency. On an ongoing basis the unit conducts unannounced security checks at retail locations across the state to see how winning tickets are being handled.
"We're working hard to protect the integrity of our games," said Lewis Andrew, supervisory investigator for the Colorado Lottery. "We encourage consumers to take steps to protect themselves as well."
