CLOVIS RESIDENT REVEALS $50,000 LOTTERY PRIZE, SCREAMS LIKE A CRAZY MAN
August 16, 2011
Robert Edwards of Clovis said he was “screaming like a crazy man” after finding a $50,000 prize in a New Mexico Lottery Scratcher game.
“I jumped out of my truck and started screaming, ‘I won it. I won it,’” Edwards recalled for lottery officials in Albuquerque Monday. “People were looking at me like I was completely crazy.” Robert Edwards
On Aug. 5, Edwards purchased two $5 tickets from the lottery’s “Triple 777” Scratcher game. He discovered the prize before driving away.
“It was like having a heart attack,” he said. “It was totally weird.”
Edward beat odds of 1 in 120,000 to win the game’s third and final top prize. After paying off some bills, he plans to put money away from his son’s out-of-state college expenses.
The lucky ticket was purchased at Allsup’s Store No. 248 at 2121 W. 21st St. in Clovis. Previously, the store has sold 12 lottery tickets paying prizes ranging between $1,000 and $50,000.
Other recent Clovis winners include Aniceto Lopez who won $5,000 and Thongmee Thomas who won $10,000, both playing Scratchers. From Portales, Scratcher players Texas Belcher won $1,000 and Griselda Lozano, $3,000.
