CLOVIS MANS WINS $105,000 LOTTERY PRIZE, PLANS TO BUY RANCH
June 26, 2011
A Clovis man claimed a $105,000 prize from the New Mexico Lottery today.
Hector Martinez’ quick-pick ticket for the June 20 Roadrunner Cash drawing matched the winning numbers of 1, 8, 16, 30 and 34.
“I’m so nervous,” Martinez said clutching his wife Juana’s hand. “I’ve never won anything like this.”
Martinez learned of his good fortune the morning after the drawing when his son checked the numbers on his father’s ticket with the winning numbers posted at the lottery’s website.
“He was asleep,” Jason Martinez recalled for lottery officials in Albuquerque. “I got him out of bed and took him to the computer.”
Together, the two men took turns checking and re-checking the ticket.
Martinez said he plans to use his prize to buy a ranch.
The 54-year-old winner bought his lucky ticket at Lowe’s Marketplace No. 17, which is now eligible for a lottery sales bonus of $1,000. The store, located at 116 W. 14th St. in Clovis, has sold three other large prize-winning tickets paying between $1,000 and $50,000.
