CLEARWATER RESIDENT CALLS IN RICH TO CLAIM $50,000 TOP PRIZE
November 29, 2011
When it comes to luck, Gary Wright seems to have an abundance of it. Over the years, the Clearwater resident has made several trips to Lottery headquarters in Topeka to claim prizes over $599. In fact, he made the trip again today, this time claiming a $50,000 top prize! Wright won the top prize by revealing six Red words on a $5 Super Red Hot Crossword instant scratch ticket.
“I buy tickets every day,” said Wright. “Last night, I stopped at a convenience store and bought four tickets. As I was watching the news, I scratched my tickets.”
After revealing a $50,000 top prize, Wright had good news to report to his wife Theresa, who at the time was watching television in another room with her mother.
“When I walked in the room, I asked Theresa to turn off the television and look at my ticket because I thought I might have just won $50,000,” said Wright. “Of course at first, she didn’t believe me.”
After having the ticket checked at a nearby convenience store, the Wrights weren’t completely convinced of their win.
“We decided not to believe it until Lottery officials verified our winning ticket,” said Wright. “Even now, with it being verified it’s hard to comprehend, but it couldn’t have come at a better time. Our furnace went out yesterday.”
In order to claim his prize, Wright, who works for Spirit AeroSystems, took the day off by calling in “rich” instead of calling in sick. After getting a new furnace, he plans to pay off bills with his winnings.
The winning ticket was purchased at Valero 1, located at 851 S. Meridian in Wichita.
