CITY OF PUEBLO WINS COLORADO LOTTERY STARBURST AWARD FOR THE PUEBLO ICE ARENA LASER LIGHT EXPERIENCE
September 20, 2011
The Colorado Lottery has awarded a 2011 Starburst Community Award to the City of Pueblo Parks and Recreation for using Lottery dollars to complete the Pueblo Ice Arena Laser Light Experience project. The City of Pueblo utilized $43,571 of Conservation Trust Fund dollars for the project. The entire project was funded with Colorado Lottery dollars.
A state of the art laser and LED light system was installed to enhance the skating experience at the Pueblo Ice Arena. The entire laser light system is computer programmed and is sound sensitive, which allows the lights to react to the music to ensure every show is unique. The project boasts of more than 1,100 lights over the ice surface. The Ice Arena enhancement project also included the purchase and installation of three 42” HDTV monitors in the arena’s lobby and concession area as well as the construction of two birthday “ice rink” areas in the Ice Arena’s concession area.
“Due to this exciting new experience at the ice arena, the attendance during our Friday evening public skating sessions has doubled and during some evenings has tripled ,” said Michael Sexton, assistant director of the City of Pueblo Parks and Recreation. “Because of the new, exciting experience, the arena is experiencing many more ‘regulars’ that attend the Laser Light Experience on a weekly basis.”
