CITY OF AURORA WINS COLORADO LOTTERY STARBURST AWARD FOR THE CITY PARK RENOVATION PROJECT
September 20, 2011
The Colorado Lottery has awarded a 2011 Starburst Community Award to the City of Aurora Parks, Recreation & Open Space Department for using Lottery dollars to complete the City Park Renovation project. Larimer County utilized a Lottery-funded Great Outdoors Colorado grant (GOCO) of $200,000 and $350,000 of Lottery-funded Conservation Trust Fund dollars for the project.
Aurora’s City Park is the oldest park in Aurora and due to the condition and age of the site elements needed to be remodeled. The City Park renovation improvements include an open field area, renovated playground, inline/skateboard plaza, public art piece, basketball count and new picnic tables and benches.
“City Park’s most important economic impact is in providing free, accessible recreation opportunities to residents in Aurora,” said Jenna Katsaros, special projects coordinator for the City of Aurora Parks, Recreation & Open Space Department. “The park provides the perfect forum for walking, picnicking, exercise or just enjoying the outdoors. Having an area that is free of charge for un-programmed spontaneous play is a benefit to all citizens, but especially to low income families living in northwest Aurora.”
