A Centerville couple's favorite pastime brought them a bit of excitement when they won a top prize of $30,000 playing the lottery's "Sparkling Winnings" instant-scratch game.

Jesse and Maria Blevins like to play the lottery's scratch games for fun. Maria, 56, deals with a knee injury and said scratch games help her keep her mind off the pain.

"Normally I check my tickets over and over again, but this time I couldn't," Maria said. "I said, 'Honey, will you come check this please? I think I made a mistake!'"

When Jesse checked the ticket, though, he knew his wife hadn't made a mistake.

"He said, 'Bring me the magnifying glass!'" Maria said with a laugh. "His eyes were so big."

Maria, who is a seamstress, said the big win really allowed her to relax.

"I just couldn't believe it. We were just so happy," she said.

Jesse and Maria plan to use some of their winnings to pay bills. They also plan to take a trip to Maria's native country of Panama to visit her family.

"I'm so happy we won so I can see my mom," Maria said.
