BRYAN COUNTY WOMAN TAKES FLIGHT TO IRAQ WITH $300K WIN
September 30, 2011
A Bryan County civilian who works in Iraq has bridged a $300,000 win from Georgia. Phonda Bishop, who lives in Richmond Hill, is on rest and recuperation before her return to Iraq this weekend.
She has won a $300,000 top prize playing Golden Age, a Georgia Lottery instant game.
Bishop, 45, works for a company that services the U.S. military. She’ll be overseas for nine months before returning in 2012.
“It’s something we do for our service members,” she said. “I’m going to bank the prize and deal with it once I get back.”
Parkers #0007, 7530 U.S. Highway 17 in Richmond Hill, sold the lucky ticket.
“I scratched it and thought I didn’t win anything until I looked again,” she said. “I told my husband and he asked, ‘Are you serious?’ ”
She and her husband, Leo, have one young daughter.
