BOULDER COUNTY PARKS AND OPEN SPACE WINS COLORADO LOTTERY STARBURST AWARD

The Colorado Lottery has awarded a 2011 Starburst Community Award to Boulder County Parks and Open Space for using Lottery dollars to complete the “missing link” in a very popular trail system in Boulder County. The Mayhoffer-Singletree Trail Project completed the last 1.5 miles of the trail system that provided a west to east trail connection to more than 150 miles of Boulder County trails. Boulder County Parks and Open Space utilized a Lottery-funded Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) grant of $150,000 to construct the trail.
The connectivity of this trail system is extremely significant because it provides the west to east trail connection to more than 150 miles of Boulder County trails, City of Boulder Trails, state trails, USFS trails and other trail systems. The construction of this trail segment completed the Marshall-Superior-Coalton trail system and opened up access to other trail systems for users of the southern Boulder County trails. The completion of this segment also keeps users on a designated trail that connects to miles of other trails with multiple types of available experiences- more natural and technical trails, regional trails that accommodate many uses, fishing experiences, nature watching experiences, and access to organized recreational areas, such as our state parks and community parks.
