$8,000,000,000 IN PRIZES
November 2, 2011
The Kentucky Lottery has reached yet another milestone – eight billion dollars in prizes paid to players.
Lottery sales in the Commonwealth started April 4, 1989. It took the Kentucky Lottery 13 years and 8 months to reach the $4 billion in prizes paid milestone, but just under an additional 9 years to reach the $8 billion mark.
“Reaching this milestone means one thing – people really are winning,” said Kentucky Lottery President and CEO Arch Gleason. “Our games are structured to be fun and entertaining, all while providing a benefit back to the Commonwealth. If players didn’t support us, they wouldn’t be buying our tickets – and wouldn’t be enjoying the $8 billion in prizes we’ve sent right back to them."
