$600,000 HIT 5 WIN GIVES CENTRALIA MANS STORY A HAPPY ENDING
October 19, 2011
A regular at the Centralia convenience store, Handy Corner, William Stidham routinely stops in to play Hit 5 using his go-to numbers -- the birthdates of his wife and children. On Wednesday, William followed this same routine when purchasing three Hit 5 tickets – he won $1 from all three tickets. But when William checked a fourth ticket he’d had since Monday’s Hit 5 drawing, he discovered that it wasn’t $1 he won, but $600,000!
After calling the 1-800 number on the back of the ticket to double-check it was legitimate, William phoned his wife immediately, who didn’t believe him at first. William is a bus mechanic for the Thurston School District with no intentions to quit his job, and plans to use his money to pay off some bills and buy back his prized 1969 Camaro.
William spent the last 20 years rebuilding his Camaro getting it back to perfection, but recently he had to make the difficult decision to sell it in order to help pay for his mortgage and for his daughter’s upcoming wedding. But he made a deal with the buyer that if for any reason he could buy it back, he would be able to. When William called the buyer on Wednesday, asking to bring his classic car back home, the buyer happily agreed.
Not only is William a winner, but so is the retailer that sold him the winning ticket – Handy Corner on Harrison Avenue in Centralia. Handy Corner will receive a retail selling bonus for $6,000 – 1% of William’s big win!
