$2 WAGER LEADS TO MILLION DOLLAR WIN
November 23, 2011
“I bought a $2 ticket, won $20. I bought the $20 ticket and won $1,000,000!” That’s how Tuan Nguyen of Silver Spring, MD, described his recent million-dollar win with the D.C. Lottery’s Money Money Money D.C. Scratcher. Mr. Nguyen claimed the cash option on his million-dollar win which—after federal taxes—was valued at over $560,000 on November 22, 2011.
The married painter and father of two, says the sequence of events was surprising. “I scratched the ticket and thought, Oh, my! A million dollars!” recalled Nguyen who took the instant scratcher home and exclaimed to his family, “Look! Look!” Originally from Vietnam, Nguyen, who has been in the U.S. since 1993, and rarely sees his family back home is planning a family trip to Vietnam to visit family. “This will be very good for us,” said Nguyen.
This winning D.C. Scratcher was purchased at Riverside Liquors, 2123 E Street, N.W.
“We’re always excited to welcome new members to the D.C. Lottery’s Millionaire Club. Lifechanging wins like this show that it can and does happen to anyone. We’re always looking for more winners,” says Buddy Roogow, executive director of the D.C. Lottery.
