$1 MILLION LOTTERY INSTANT WIN HAS CHICAGO MAN JUMPING FOR JOY
June 26, 2012
Urooj Khan is the newest $1 million winner from the Illinois Lottery's $3,000,000 Cash Jackpot instant game. Khan bought his winning $1 million ticket at 7-Eleven, 6801 North Western Avenue in Chicago.
Khan along with his wife, Shabana Ansari, their daughter, Jasmeen Khan, and several friends gathered at the lucky, winning store today to accept an oversized check from Illinois Lottery representatives. Khan recalls the day vividly due to the fact that he won the lottery. “I scratched the ticket, then I kept on saying, 'I hit a million!’ over and over again. I jumped two feet in the air, then ran back into the store and tipped the clerk $100,” said Khan.
Khan plans on paying off his bills, mortgage and making a contribution to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. He saved a portion of the winnings to invest in his dry cleaning business. “Winning the lottery means everything to me, it will help me grow my business!” he exclaimed.
The Illinois Lottery also presented 7-Eleven with a bonus check for $10,000, which is one percent of the prize for selling the winning ticket. Franchisee Jimmy Goreel joined Khan today in receiving an oversized check from Lottery representatives. “It’s been a few years since we have had a winner this big, so this is very exciting for all of us. In addition to the bonus, this win means more traffic for our store. Right now, everyone knows this is the place to buy their lottery tickets!” Goreel said.
